Seekers presents the work of Craig Zweifel, an
internationally recognized artist whose original creations in handblown glass
include vases, perfume vials, paperweights, eggs, stemware, ornaments and other
forms.
Zweifel designs and executes each piece
himself, using classic glassblowing techniques that he has refined during more
than two decades as an artist working in glass.
An expert chemist, Zweifel makes glass with
his own formulations of silver and other metallic oxides. Each piece is
individually created, signed and dated. No molds or machines are used in the
creative process.
Renowned for the extraordinary quality of his
iridescent glass, Zweifel’s works are distinguished by subtle gradations of
color and stunning contrasts of matte and mirror-like metallic surfaces.
Zweifel earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts
degree from San Jose State University in 1969, where he studied under the late
Dr. Robert Fritz, widely regarded as one of the founders of the American Studio
Glass Movement.
After several years as an independent artist,
he returned to California and received his Master of Arts degree in Glass Design
from UCLA. Since 1972, he has operated his own studio in a remote area of Idaho.
Recognized as one of America’s leading glass
artists, Zweifel’s works have been exhibited at major galleries and museums
throughout the world.
His glass has been purchased for numerous
private and public collections, including those of the White House and The
Smithsonian.
