Seekers Glass Gallery
presents the work of Kevin Robert Gray, whose original designs in handblown
glass feature freeform shapes and precious metals, including gold, silver and
platinum.
Using glassblowing
techniques that are thousands of years old, Gray works the glass at temperatures
in excess of 2000 degrees F. He forms and shapes each piece individually,
without the use of molds. Each piece is one of a kind, an
d is signed and dated.
Gray studied glass at
Sheridan College, and two of the leading glass schools in the country; the
Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Maine; and the Pilchuck School of Glass in
Washington State, where he studied with renowned glass artists Paul Stankard and
Lino Tagliapietra.
Gray has worked in
glass since 1980; and established his own studio in 1984.
“I have always been
attracted to glass for its intrinsic beauty and the permanence of the material.
After twenty years working with glass, it still remains artistically and
professionally exciting,” Gray maintains.
The artist has taught
glass at Sheridan College and the Ontario College of Art, Canada.
Publications that
have featured Gray’s work include Fusion
Magazine; Canadian Living; and Treasures
of Canada.
Gray’s work has
been exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada; the Musee Beaux Arts, France;
and Sheridan College, Canada.
Public
and private collections that include the artist’s work include the City of
Ottawa, Canada; Bell Canada; Canadian Broadcasting Corporation; and the
governments of Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Britain, and India.
